Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Hydrogen Production from Renewables
The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) is seeking applications for an NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair position in the field of Hydrogen Production from Renewables. The goal of the Chair is to develop sustainable, efficient, low-cost hydrogen production technologies with low environmental impact. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership in the field of renewable hydrogen production technologies, including water electrolysis/water splitting or a related field of specialization. Applications covering all aspects of this subject (engineering, materials sciences, catalyzers, scale-up and system optimization) will be considered. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of two energy and materials research centres at UQTR: the Hydrogen Research Institute (Institut de recherche sur l’hydrogène (IRH)) and the Innovations Institute in Ecomaterials, Ecoproducts and Ecoenergies – Bio-Based (I2E3) (Institut d’innovations en écomatériaux, écoproduits et écoénergie à base de biomasse (I2E3)).
The research program at IRH involves both the basic study and the development of technologies related to hydrogen as an energy vector. The purpose of the proposed Chair is to complement the HRI research programme in storage and conversion of renewable energies using hydrogen; and use of hydrogen as a precursor for synthetic materials and fuels (Power-to-X). The Chair will also align complement research activities carried out by I2E3 in collaboration with industry, specifically as it relates to the development of bio-sourced products (biofuels, intermediates of chemical synthesis, bioplastics, etc.). Both research units offer a very dynamic and multidisciplinary research environment, in which the training of highly qualified people and collaboration with industry and regional/national organizations play an important role. The candidate should thus be able to develop and lead a high performance academic research team while developing and maintaining close partnerships with industry.
The successful candidate will hold a tenure-track faculty position at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières if granted a Canada Research Chair. Consequently, Candidates must hold a doctorate (PhD) in Science or Engineering. Teaching experience and a functional knowledge of French are an asset. Knowledge of French is not initially required.
The Canada Research Chair Program
Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs are granted after a rigorous evaluation process to outstanding researchers regarded as world leaders in their field by their peers. Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors, or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Nominees from outside academia must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels.
Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
UQTR is committed to providing an equitable, diverse and inclusive environment that is essential to the development of innovative knowledge and technologies. As a result, UQTR is committed to complying with federal policies regarding non-discrimination and employment equity. The University especially encourages applications from qualified women, members of visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, and persons with disabilities. Accommodations will also be provided to persons with disabilities according to their needs.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should submit an application package by march 1, 2020, which will include: a curriculum vitae; a brief description (3 pages) of the research program; examples of significant contributions to their research field (peer-reviewed articles, monographs, etc.); and the names of three experts willing to provide a letter of reference. Candidates may also provide information on special circumstances that may have led to the reduction or interruption of their research activity. UQTR will take those circumstances into consideration when evaluating the application. All required documentation must be submitted as a single pdf document, using the online voluntary disclosure form that can be found at the following address: http://www.uqtr.ca/CRC_Declaration_volontaire.
Applications will first be evaluated by a selection committee responsible for identifying those applications that effectively meet the selection criteria of the University and of the Canada Research Chair Program. Short-listed applications will be submitted to a University committee to ensure that institutional goals and regulations on equity, diversity, and inclusion have been taken into consideration. As the appointment is subject to approval by a department within the University, candidates must also be prepared to participate in the hiring process of the department. The successful candidate will be invited to present a complete dossier to the Canada Research Chair Program and, if granted a Chair, will be offered a tenure-track faculty position.
