Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) will be one of the concepts required in the future to limit the CO2 emission from the combustion of fossil fuels for a sustainable energy supply. The hydrogenation of CO2 by using hydrogen produced by renewable electricity is an attractive approach for the chemical recycling of CO2 to energy carriers or chemicals. The concept investigated allows to directly convert CO2 into fuel components and large-scale bulk chemicals. The research focusses on the kinetic modeling of the methanol synthesis over the selected catalyst that will lead to detailed elementary-based reaction schemes within the mean field approximation that can successfully predict the catalyst performance under dynamic conditions. Additionally, modeling will be done which includes the consideration of mass and heat transport, which is needed in the successful description of the real process. Experiments under relevant conditions will be performed to validate the mechanisms and models.
