Research Associate Position available at the “Functional Microbiomics Center” funded by the NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, USA.
Newly established “Functional Microbiomics Center (FMC)” is seeking a highly talented and motivated post-doctoral associate in the areas of microbiome, inflammation and host-pathogen interactions. The selected candidate will establish and execute protocols involved in maintaining germ-free and gnotobiotic mice and facilitate analysis of microbiota diversity by 16S rDNA sequencing. Responsibilities include but not limited to germ-free animal maintenance, development of standard operating procedures, working with FMC PIs in experiments involving microbial transfers in germfree mice, maintain an anaerobic culture facility and analysis of microbial diversity from a wide range of human and mouse tissue, urine and fecal samples.
A PhD or MD/PhD in Microbiology and Immunology or related fields in biomedical research with strong background in animal models is required. Knowledge of animal methods, inflammation, infections, anaerobic cultures, next-gen sequencing, gut microbiota and microbial metabolites is desirable. Experience in working with germ free & gnotobiotic mice is preferred. The qualified candidates should be able to work collaboratively with excellent communication and writing skills.
