The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. It is made up of three research disciplines, including Ecosystems Biology & Sustainability, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Microbes & Pathogen Biology. Most staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014).
The School aims to enhance the way we use technology in research, food security, microbiology, ecosystem biology, sustainability and many other related areas. The School prides itself on providing innovative teaching methods and a high-tech learning environment for our students and has been awarded the prestigious Athena SWAN Gold award in recognition of its work to support women in science.
We are recruiting for a Research Assistant who will be an active member of the research team assisting in the planning and delivery of research led by Dr Katrina Campbell at the Institute of Global Food Security within the framework of the H2020 EU project Eurobiotox. This research project is a European Program for the Establishment of Validated Procedures for the Detection and Identification of Biological Toxins.
The successful candidate must have:
•1st class or 2.1 Degree or equivalent in biochemistry, chemistry or analytical science or related discipline
•1 years recent relevant practical experience in HPLC/UPLC and Mass Spectrometry
•Experience of biological sample preparation (especially foods and feeds)
•Practical experience in the validation of analytical methods to recognised international criteria
