The Research Assistant II position provides technical and coordination skills in carrying out various research projects.
The individual will work under the supervision of the principal investigator or his designate on experiments focusing on the isolation, culture, and analysis of Sarcoma and melanoma cells.
1.Tissue culture and human sample processing:
a.Maintains and establishes culture of human and murine (when needed) cells, which require rigorous sterile techniques. Must have the ability to observe and identify cell changes under the microscope, determine cell counts and cell viability.
b.Prepares sterile media and solutions. Purify cells by various methods and monitor cells for proliferation and activation by standard laboratory methods.
c.Monitors, orders and shelves tissue culture supplies to ensure efficient functioning.
d.Processes human blood samples for peripheral blood mononuclear cells and serum isolation and storage using cryogenic storage.
e.Processes human tumor samples in a sterile environment to isolate tumor cells and lymphocytes and established tumor cell lines in culture.
f.The above requires using the microscope and performing viable cell counts, working for prolonged periods with hands extended under a flow hood and lifting cases (s degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
