Applications are invited for a Wellcome Trust funded Research Assistant position within the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in London. The available position is within the Centre for Microvascular Research, an internationally respected group of 40 researchers with established expertise in the fields of inflammation and vascular biology. The appointed person will be working within the group of Professor Sussan Nourshargh that focusses on deciphering the molecular basis of leukocyte-blood vessel wall interactions. The principal responsibilities of the post are the management of the group’s animal colonies and contributing to defined research projects. Experience in in vivo procedures, animal husbandry and possession of a Home Office Personal Licence will be essential. Experience in microscopy/imaging will be highly advantageous.
The Centre for Microvascular Research is based on the Charterhouse Square Campus of the Medical School, offers newly refurbished laboratories, cutting edge imaging facilities and is located in the heart of the City of London in close proximity to the Barbican Art and Music Centre and St Paul’s Cathedral.
The William Harvey Research Institute leads major international programmes into the genetic and pathogenic mechanisms of cardiovascular, inflammatory and endocrine diseases within our Medical School. Barts and The London SMD is currently ranked 6th most prestigious Medical School in the UK and Queen Mary University of London has been a member of the elite research active Russell Group of Universities since 2012.
This is a full-time, fixed term post for 18 months. It is anticipated that subject to progress and acquisition of additional funds, the duration of the post maybe extended. Salary will be in the range £31,054 to £32,735 per annum inclusive of London Allowance (Grade 4, points 24-26). Applicants must be enthusiastic graduates with in vivo research/laboratory experience. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this can include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
