MRC Cancer Unit
The MRC Cancer Unit (MRC CU) is a University Department situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It provides an outstanding environment for cancer research, supporting some 10 research groups and ~150 bench scientists. The MRC CU’s focus is to conduct world-leading research to understand how cancers develop and seeks to translate this knowledge into new approaches for diagnosis and treatment. The unit is a key participant in the Cambridge Cancer Centre, providing an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with Cambridge colleagues in the biological, physical, chemical and engineering sciences.
A Research Assistant is required to join the oesophago-gastric research group at the MRC Cancer Unit at the University of Cambridge which is led by Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald. The post-holder will be required to perform nucleic acid extractions from human samples, library preparations for next-generation sequencing along with other molecular techniques. This RA will also provide support to other laboratory personnel. A wide range of techniques will be employed including immunohistochemistry, PCR, preparation of human tissue samples for sequencing and downstream functional studies. A solid background in cell and molecular biology is essential as well as a willingness to perform sample tracking and basic data analyses.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2021 in the first instance.
