Julia Ljubimova, M.D., Ph.D., a multi-NIH award holder, Principal Investigator, and Director of the Nanomedicine Research Center in the department of Neurosurgery, and Keith Black, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, have a job opening for a Project Scientist Researcher. This position is ideal for an individual on an academic trajectory as it may lead to a research scientist faculty position. As a contributing Project Scientist, the candidate will work independently and in cooperation with other research investigators and staff to make significant and creative contributions to research in nanomedicine.
The duties include studying the therapeutic properties and molecular biological mechanisms of new nanodrugs/nano immunodrugs, which will be optimized for clinical efficacy to treat breast and hematological tumors.
The individual should: 1) assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds; 2) develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols; 3) analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data; 4) lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows; and 5) assist in day-to-day laboratory activities 6) commit to working in the lab for a minimum of three years.
Desired Skills and Experience
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, with at least three years of postdoctoral experience in cancer biology/immunology and preclinical/clinical tumor treatment. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in molecular biology, immunological/cell biology methods, genomics/proteomics and bioinformatic analyses for the genomics/proteomics data development and animal handling/surgery to treat experimental breast primary and brain metastatic cancer and different brain tumors. The candidate should be able to lead an individual project but also be highly collaborative with scientific consistency. They must demonstrate strong self-motivation in scientific research, work independently with full training and minimal supervision, and fit well into an experiment-orientated work schedule. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with lab supervisors, PIs, and other members and have the ability to write scientific papers and reports.
