About SR-TIGET
The San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-TIGET), created in 1995 as a joint venture between Fondazione Telethon and Ospedale San Raffaele, is located in Milan and directed by Luigi Naldini. The Institute, a renowned leader in the cell and gene therapy field, includes both experimental and clinical research groups to allow clinical translation of successful therapies for genetic diseases and cancer. It comprises 13 Experimental Research Units and 2 Clinical Research Units with specific expertise for conducting clinical trials of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, with a staff of about 220 people coming from >10 different countries. To foster the translation of new therapeutic strategies from bench to bedside, SR-TIGET has also established the following core structures:
- a Process Development Lab to develop, optimize, scale-up and validate cell and gene therapy protocols generated in the research labs with the aim of making them suitable for clinical application and transferred to Contract Manufacturing Organizations for GMP production
- a GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) Test Facility, first academic GLP center for performing biodistribution, toxicology/tumorigenicity and validation studies on gene and cell therapy products, certified by the Italian Ministry of Health
- a Vector Integration Core, which performs genome-wide profiling of vector integration sites as readout of cell growth at clonal level
- a GCLP (Good Clinical Laboratory Practices) Laboratory, to ensure data integrity and reliability in analyses of samples from clinical trials
- a dedicated Clinical Trial Office, which provides support to early phase clinical trial design, approval, management and closure.

SR-TIGET is hosted within the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, one of the largest hospitals and biomedical research centers in Italy, and is associated with the San Raffaele University, which hosts graduate and post-graduate programs in Medicine, Health Sciences and Biotechnology.

Overall, SR-TIGET provides for a stimulating, international and highly interdisciplinary environment allowing proficient collaboration among scientists and clinicians with widely different expertise and offers the unique opportunity to effectively translate research advances to clinical trials. Staff scientists have access to several state-of-the art facilities, including genomics, microscopy, flow cytometry, mouse transgenic, SPF animal husbandry and specialized mouse clinic, live animal imaging, proteomics and bioinformatics.
