The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national centre for geosphere research. As a member of the Helmholtz Association we are part of the largest German scientific organization. With around 1,300 employees (including our guests) we develop a sound understanding of the systems and processes of the solid Earth as well as strategies and options for action to face global change and its regional impacts, to understand natural hazards and reduce associated risks, and to assess the influence of humans on the Earth’s system. This largest regional concentration of geoscientific competence in Europe offers first-class cooperation and development opportunities. For the Staff Scientific Executive Board (GFZ Project Bureau), we are looking for a:

Your responsibilities:

  • continuous monitoring of EU funding programs
  • informing, motivating, advising and coaching of scientists during the whole time of EU projects – from topic identification, up to project review and -audit
  • proofreading and editing of draft proposals for consistency, clarity, grammar, and syntax
  • revision of textual contributions in response to the specific requirements of the target calls and framework programs, in particular checking of eligibility
  • analysis of external evaluation results
  • development, implementation and realization of training formats and workshops for researchers to improve their writing skills and to familiarize them with formal requirements of EU project applications
  • assistance in all internal and external processes needed for the successful management of EU projects (including financial and legal aspects)

Your qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in geosciences or natural sciences
  • excellent writing and communication skills in English (native speaker or level C1/C2)
  • experienced in the acquisition of EU funding and coaching of respective applicants
  • advanced knowledge of large European and/or international funding programs
  • skills in coordinating complex consortia with involvement of multiple stakeholders
  • profound experience in scientific proposal writing
  • readiness to work both within our service-oriented team and independently
  • ability to interact with scientists at all levels
  • experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • readiness to work in a deadline-driven environment and to cooperate with stakeholders from different sectors

Start date: as soon as possible
Fixed-term: 2 years (option for a permanent position)
Salary: This position has been assessed as salary group 13 according to “TVöD Bund
(Tarifgebiet Ost)”. The salary group will be determined by the conditions of the collective
wage agreement and the appropriate personal qualifications.
Working hours: full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is, in principle, suitable for part-time employment.
Place of work: Potsdam
