The University of Cologne, Faculty of Medicine, posts the position of
Professorship (W3) for Medical Informatics
as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Universities act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW). The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date.
Being one of the Universities of Excellence in Germany, the University of Cologne has decided to strategically expand and restructure the areas of data-sciences und data-analytics. An aspect of this initiative will be the installation of a medical data integration center (MeDIC), as well as the recruitment of a new professor for Medical Informatics. The MeDIC will be the center of medical data science at the campus. The main goal of the new professorship is to establish an internationally competitive program for research in medical informatics, which should be closely linked to the competence areas of the medical faculty. This regards in particular the interface between data sciences and clinical/translational research, as well as the participation in the Medical Informatics Initiative of the BMBF. The professor for Medical Informatics will be a member of the executive board of the MeDIC and will be in the lead in teaching medical informatics at the University of Cologne.
Candidates should have an excellent, internationally recognised scholarly record in medical informatics, including a visible publication track record. The successful candidate should have extensive experience in teaching students and should be interested in shaping the study program in medicine, as well as post-graduate programs of the Medical Faculty. A tight cooperation with the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) and the Cluster of Excellence for Aging Related Research (CECAD) is desired. She or he is expected to take part in joint research activities of the Faculty of Medicine and to apply for qualified third-party research funds.
Further requirements for application include a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation or equivalent) and the ability to acquire competitive third-party funding. Social skills and the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams are prerequisites.
