The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a

Professorship (W2/W3) for molecular Animal cell biology
commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. 2318.

This professorship is responsible for teaching animal physiology and cell biology and is expected to conduct ambitious research in animal cell biology, preferentially on molecular mechanisms in cell biology. Candidates applying for a professorship at both W2 and W3 level should demonstrate outstanding academic qualifications in the field of animal cell biology. Those applying for a W3-level appointment should also have attained international recognition for their research in this field. Candidates using animal model systems to investigate the regulation of proliferation, of cell cycling, of proteostasis, or of chromatin, are especially encouraged to apply. The future holder of the position will be expected to deploy novel methods of molecular biology and microscopy to investigate current research questions in cell biology. Research should contribute to Universität Hamburg’s core research area Infection Research. We expressly welcome participation in the emerging field of the faculty “Hybrids—Chances and Challenges of New Genomic Combinations.”

Suitable candidates for this appointment fulfill one or more of the above criteria. They are capable of integrating their research into the existing research environment of the Department of Biology, and also of developing new collaborative research fields.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Additional criteria:
Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

The post holder is expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment providing they do not have the requisite skills when starting.

Following hearings, selected candidates will be assessed to ascertain skills in the areas of management and human resources.
