Hamburg is implementing an inter-university strategy to strengthen informatics and computer science in the context of digitalization. The cooperation platform ahoi.digital increases and enhances cooperation in informatics education, research, and technology transfer between Universität Hamburg, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), and HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU).

The Faculty for Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a

Professorship (W2/W3) for Informatics, with a focus on Computational cognitive systems

commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. 2323.

Responsibilities:

The faculty is seeking a candidate with an excellent proven track-record in the interdisciplinary field of computational and natural cognitive systems.

The successful candidate also has a proven track-record of internationally recognized publications and research at the interface between informatics and psychology. Research should focus on data-driven and computational methods for modeling and simulation of cognitive processes, particularly of learning cognitive systems and their extension and adaptation to natural and artificial perception, cognition, and action in dynamic situations.
The successful candidate is expected to have research experience in experimental methodology and technical solutions (e.g., smart sensors, neurotechnologies, augmented/virtual reality, portable/embeddable prostheses and implants, or active/passive therapeutic exo-skeletons).

The future post-holder is also expected to actively participate in existing and planned interdisciplinary research projects, especially Collaborative Research Center (CRC)/Transregio 169 “Crossmodal Learning: Adaptivity, Prediction and Interaction” as well as in the profile initiative Mechanisms of Change and the emerging field Neurosciences and Cognitive Systems. Willingness to collaborate with other research groups in the department and interdisciplinary projects within Universität Hamburg as well as active participation in ahoi.digital, the cooperation platform for informatics at Hamburg’s higher education institutions, are prerequisites. Links to psychology and ethics are expected.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 15 HmbHG.

Additional Criteria:

Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives. The successful candidate is expected to have very good teaching abilities and to participate in the instruction of undergraduate students in the department’s informatics degree programs, particularly the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Human-Computer Interaction.
Following hearings, selected candidates will be assessed to ascertain skills in the areas of management and human resources.
