The professorship focuses on food microbiology and is situated in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate should have proven scientific qualifications and international recognition in the field of food microbiology.

The successful candidate is further expected to work in the University’s core research area of Infection Research ( Research should contribute to the area of food-borne diseases in particular. Links to relevant institutions are therefore desired. In this context, the post holder’s involvement in the Department of Chemistry’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology specialization is expressly desired.

In their application, applicants are expected to indicate to which of the University’s core re-search areas, emerging fields, or profile initiatives ( their research can best be assigned.

The successful candidate is further expected to teach students in the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Food Chemistry and is also required to teach food and domestic science components in the context of vocational training. Teaching duties include giving lectures, practical courses, and seminars and supervising laboratory experiments and final theses in the Department of Chemistry degree programs.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 15 HmbHG.

Additional Criteria:
Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

The post holder is expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment providing he or she does not have the requisite skills when starting.
