The Faculty of Biology invites applications for the position of
Professorship (W2) for Conservation Biology
Conservation biology is a nationally and internationally highly competitive research area within the Faculty of Biology at the Philipps University with a high potential for interdisciplinary networking. The successful candidate is expected to expand research in the fields of biodiversity and conservation and increase its national and international visibility. We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with an independent scientific profile in the field of evidence-based conservation biology of plants of terrestrial habitats. Profound knowledge and experience in modern, e.g. genetic, population- or landscape ecological methods to study measures for the conservation and promotion of biodiversity are expected. In addition, new methods for recording and pre-serving biodiversity are to be developed and established.
We are looking for a scientist who works solution-oriented and interdisciplinary. The successful candidate should participate in existing collaborative projects of the faculty, such as in high mountain and forest research, as well as in the overall research priorities of the university, especially in the areas of biodiversity and climate research. A willingness to cooperate with soil microbiological research would be desirable, cooperation with a microbiological research area is required. The acquisition of competitive third-party funding, the promotion of young scientists and participation in the development of teaching in the fields of biodiversity and conservation are expected.
The professorship is responsible for teaching all aspects of conservation biology in BSc, MSc and teacher training programs. The successful candidate will also contribute to the botanic-ecological education in the study programs. Teaching is both in German and English. The Philipps-Universität Marburg emphasizes research-oriented teaching.
The employment conditions of §§ 61, 62 HHG apply. The Philipps University attaches great importance to intensive supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects the lecturers to have a strong presence at the university.
