The Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Bonn and the Research Center Jülich (FZJ) are offering a joint appointment
in accordance with the Inverse Jülich Model as a

The applicant (m/f) should have international recognition in the investigation of the molecular genetic basis of brain structure/function or disease. Since bioinformatic approaches are becoming increasingly important in the integration of molecular genetic data with other data levels, experience in these techniques is required. Experience in the leadership of a scientific working group and the acquisition of competitive third-party funds are expected.
The professorship is intended to strengthen cooperation between the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn and the Research Center Jülich (FZJ). The professorship will bring together the scientific fields of molecular genetics and the study of brain structure & function within a new and future-orientated concept.
The professorship will be based at the Institute of Human Genetics of the University Hospital of Bonn and the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-1) of the FZJ. The professor will have access to laboratory facilities and other resources at both sites. At the Institute of Human Genetics, the professorship will be linked to the leadership of an independent working group. At INM-1, the professorship will be linked to the working group “Genomic Imaging”.
The professorship is being established in order to strengthen research and teaching in the research foci of the Medical Faculty (www.ukb.uni-bonn.de/Forschung), and will be a joint appointment with the FZJ. Initially, the position will be non-tenured and based on a three-year fixed-term contract. Following a positive three year evaluation, a second fixed-term as W2 professor will be granted. This can be converted into a tenured position, given a positive evaluation at the end of the second term. In principle, the appointed professor will have the possibility of contributing to the health care services of the Institute of Human Genetics. Remuneration would be arranged within the context of a non-tariff contract. The conditions of employment detailed in § 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW (Higher Education Act, North Rhine Westphalia) will apply.
Requirements for the appointment include a degree in medical or natural sciences, proof of scientific achievement, and teaching experience regarding § 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW. German language competence is essential for possible activities within health care.
