The University of Cologne, Faculty of Medicine, Center for Integrative Oncology (CIO) posts the position of
Professorship (W 3) for Computational Cancer Biology
as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Universities act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW). The position is initially offered until September 30th, 2024. The professorship may become tenured.
The position is part of the newly established Cancer Research Centre Cologne Essen (CCCE) which combines clinical and basic sciences in oncology of the two large university hospitals and medical faculties of Cologne and Essen. It is the goal of the initiative to gain deep insight into the etiopathology of tumour diseases to foster progresses in diagnosis and treatment of individual cancer patients.
Candidates should have an excellent scholarly record in computational biology. The appointed professor is expected to develop innovative concepts of artificial intelligence to generate novel insights into cancer biology with the intention to improve the clinical management of tumour patients. Large clinical and genomic data sets are available from clinical studies on campus. High performance computer power is provided at the Regional Computing Centre Cologne (RRZK) and an association to the Center for Data and Simulation Sciences (CDS) is envisaged. A close interaction with focus areas of the Centre for Integrative Oncology Cologne (CIO) is desirable. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to take part in joint research activities of the Cologne Life Sciences Campus such as the CIO, the West German Genome Center (WGGC), the Cluster of Excellence – Cellular Stress Responses in Aging – Associated Diseases (CECAD) and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC).
The Faculty of Medicine seeks to appoint a candidate with an excellent track record in research and teaching. Social skills, the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams and to apply for third-party research funds are prerequisites.
