Professorship Geoarchaeology and Environmental Hazards (W3)

at the Institute for Ecosystem Research in the Section of Geography to be filled by 1st October 2020.

The new professorship will integrate and develop ecosystem and geoarchaeological concepts and methods. A focus will be placed on the quantitative reconstruction, analysis and modelling of geomorphological, archaeo-sedimentological, and archaeo-pedological dynamics and long-term processes in cultural landscapes.

The position is a key professorship of the ROOTS Cluster of Excellence, which aims at analyzing processes of past societies and their shaping by intense socio-environmental connectivities mainly in Eurasia (www.cluster-roots.uni-kiel.de). The position holder is expected to stimulate research especially in the Subcluster „socio-environmental hazards“, which focusses on quantifying, modelling, and assessing the impact of past environmental hazards on human societies, and socio-cultural hazards on environmental changes from local to global scales in a diachronic perspective.

The position entails teaching obligations of the Institute for Ecosystem Research on undergraduate and graduate levels, including several international master study programs. The teaching language at the Bachelor level is German. Teaching duties are based on the latest State Regulations for Universities (LVVO) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Presently they comprise 9 hours per term week.

The position is opened with respect to Art. § 61 and § 63 Section 1 of the „Higher Education Act“ of the State of Schleswig-Holstein.
