Professorship for Dynamics of Cancer and Immune Systems (W2) with Tenure Track (W2) (f/m/d)

to occupy.

The University of Cologne is one of the largest universities in Germany. It conducts internationally competitive research and covers a wide range of subjects. With its six Faculties and its inter-Faculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas.

This call is part of the Tenure Track Program of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. It addresses researchers at an early career stage.

YOUR TASKS
The new professorship is intended to attract a young scientist who has made an internationally visible theoretical, clinical and/or experimental contribution to the field of research on the dynamics of cancer and the immune system.

In addition, the professorship will be closely integrated into the cooperative research priorities at the University of Cologne, in particular the focus area of the Medical Faculty on tumors, infections and immune defense with its collaborative projects and special research areas. An inter-faculty interaction, especially with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is also desired. The applicant should represent his field of expertise in both teaching and research. The tasks of the professorship include the training of students and doctoral candidates in the Medical Faculty.

YOUR PROFILE
Applicants should be outstanding personalities in the field of research on the dynamics of cancer and immune systems. This includes, but is not limited to the development of theoretical or experimental models of tumor cell evolution in the context of the immune system. Alternatively, the work may also deal with the dynamic role of infectious agents in tumorigenesis. Research contributions that open a possibility of clinical translation are particularly welcome.

Social competence, a team-oriented working style and the ability to successfully acquire external funding are required. It is expected that he/she will teach beyond the narrow field of research in the various study programs of the Medical Faculty. Relevant publications must be presented. Formal prerequisite for the application is the habilitation or comparable achievements in research and teaching.

The professorship is to be filled on 30.11.2020, initially for a limited period of 5 years. The recruitment requirements of § 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act apply. As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week. No later than five years after the start of employment, there will be a final evaluation in accordance with the Regulations for Quality Assurance in Tenure Track Procedures at the University of Cologne.
