Professorship for Antimicrobial Resistance (W2, limited) (f/m/d)
The University of Cologne is one of the largest universities in Germany. It conducts internationally competitive research and covers a wide range of subjects. With its six Faculties and its inter-Faculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas.
The professorship is supported by the German Centre for Infectious Diseases (DZIF), Bonn-Köln. The primary translational objective of the Professorship is the improvement of diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic modalities for infections caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria. The position is located at the Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology und Hygiene.
The successful candidate has a competitive scientific track record in genome-based and preclinical research of the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and the molecular epidemiology of nosocomial infections caused by antibiotic resistant bacterial pathogens. The candidate is expected to be experienced in academic teaching and to engage in teaching activities of the Medical Faculty. Further requirements for application include the Habilitation or equivalent.
A close cooperation is expected with clinical departments and institutes of the Medical Faculty that have a special focus on infectious diseases. The life science campus of Cologne provides excellent possibilities for scientific interactions with the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC), the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases (CECAD), Comprehensive Research Centers (CRC) of the DFG and the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research.
Social skills, a very good command of the German language, the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams and to successfully apply for third-party research funds are mandatory.

The position is initially limited to 5 years. After a positive evaluation, a renewal is principally planed. The position is available at the earliest possible date. The recruitment requirements according to Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW) apply. As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
