The Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research Unit
Institute for Cancer Research-and Imperial College London
The Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research Unit (CEPRU) is a joint initiative between The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London, and Imperial College London (ICL) established in 2020 under the founding Director Professor Elio Riboli.
CEPRU invites applications from highly qualified candidates to fill up to four positions, two posts will be based at St. Mary’s ICL Campus in London and two based at the Sutton Campus of the ICR.
The post holders will become part of the CEPRU, which links two major academic research and healthcare related institutions. The overarching aim of CEPRU is to pave the way for cross-fertilization of research between ICR and IC into the identification of novel targets for primary prevention and the innovative ways to deliver prevention and early detection of cancer.
The successful candidates will be expected to take forward their own programme of cancer epidemiology with a strong focus on prevention. There is an opportunity to become a Principal Investigator of the Breast Cancer Now funded Generations Study at ICR. This cohort study of 113,000 women in the UK was established in 2003 to investigate the aetiological basis of breast cancer and is scheduled to run for 40 years.
Candidates will be highly motivated individuals with a broad and deep experience in cancer epidemiology, and an interest in cancer aetiology and prevention. Appointments will be made at the appropriate Academic level: junior applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in related fields; and (ii) outstanding potential in research. All successful candidates will have the vision, leadership, experience, energy and enthusiasm to build on current strengths in both ICR and ICSPH to develop and take forward their own programme in cancer epidemiology and prevention. For senior posts at Imperial there is also an expectation to demonstrate a strong commitment to be excellent in teaching.
Appointments will be made at the appropriate academic level, subject to skills and experience. At ICR academics are appointed as either Career Faculty which is non-time limited with competitive salary, or as Career Development Faculty, which is a six-year Fixed Term Contract on the Career Development Faculty scale in the first instance.
All posts are full-time based on 35 hours per week net, Monday to Friday.
Appointments will be made at the appropriate academic level, subject to skills and experience. These will be full time and open-ended appointments. Applications from part-time candidates are welcome.
