We have a vacancy for a professor/associate professor in Materials Science and Engineering (Battery Technology)

The available position is affiliated with the Functional Materials and Materials Chemistry research group (FACET), Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences, NTNU Norwegian University for Science and Technology.
Research activities in the Department cover electrochemical energy technology (batteries), functional materials and materials chemistry, nanomaterials, ceramics, corrosion, physical metallurgy and metallurgical and electrochemical process engineering.
The position reports to Head of Department.
This position in battery technology is focused on development of functional- and nanomaterials for emerging battery technologies, new battery concepts, and understanding of electrochemical and degradation phenomena. Extensive state-of-the-art infrastructure for materials and battery development and testing is established at the Department.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong program of externally funded research and scholarships. It is desired that the candidate will strengthen the existing research profile of the department and contribute to strengthen the national and international collaboration with academia and industry.
The candidate will be responsible for taking part in teaching and development of courses in general and inorganic chemistry, materials science and engineering (including nanomaterials), and energy technology, as well as supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD candidates.
For the evaluation of the candidates, documented experience in development of battery materials and concepts will be emphasized. Weight will also be placed on characterization of structural and electrochemical properties of the materials as well as testing in full cell batteries. In addition, competence in microscopic mechanistic studies, in situ characterization of the different battery components, development of all solid-state batteries or computational materials science is beneficial.
Emphasis will be placed on the scientific competence as well as experience with supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students. Evaluation of the applicant will be based on documented material, including teaching experience at university level, pedagogical training, presentation of academic work, experience from supervision and teaching of BSc, MSc and PhD candidates, as well as other related skills. The evaluation will take into account the loss of research productivity for applicants who have had parental leave during the last years.
Basic qualifications in the discipline of education are required. Anyone who is appointed without having formal basic qualifications in the discipline of education (formerly referred to as practical qualifications in teaching at university level) and who is unable to document equivalent qualifications is required to complete an approved course within two years of appointment. Uniped at NTNU offers qualifying courses.
It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course in Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.
The person appointed must comply with the decisions about changes due to developments in the subject area, and the organizational changes that may result from decisions regarding the university’s activities.

The full professorship candidates must document a leadership in research that has led to an extensive and excellent research track record with publications in highly reputed journals. Candidates must document high-quality teaching and supervision experience. In addition, the candidate must show the ability to promote collaborative research and a strong documented funding ID.
For the associate professor:
The associate professorship candidates must document the ability to initiate and lead research and publish in recognized international journals. The applicants should document teaching and supervision experience. In addition it is beneficial if the candidate can document the ability to promote collaborative research and generate funding.

Salary and conditions
The position as Professor/Associate Professor comes with a starting package for new research staff, opportunities for mentoring and is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
It is required that the newly appointed member of staff takes up residence in Trondheim or nearby. Norway, like other Scandinavian countries, has generous rules for both maternity and paternity leave. Professional subsidized day-care for children is easily available. Furthermore, Trondheim offers great opportunities for education (including international schools) and possibilities to enjoy nature, culture and family life. Having a population of 200,000, Trondheim is a small city by international standards with low crime rates and little pollution. It also has easy access to a beautiful countryside with mountains and a dramatic coastline.
Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
