Professor / Associate Professor in Stem Cell Science
The appointment will be on UCL Grade . The salary range will be Professorial – Competitive Salary OR Grade 9 – £56,266 – £61,181 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
We are seeking to appoint a Professor or Associate Professor of Stem Cell Science who will help develop strategic research at the Royal Free Campus. The professor will be attached to the Research Department of Surgical Biotechnology, at the Royal Free campus.
This is a new appointment for a scientist with an international reputation and track record in the stem cell field, as evidenced by high impact peer review publications and research income.
The candidate will be based in the Department within the UCL Medical School Royal Free campus. The candidate is expected to establish world-class basic science research in the stem cell field.
Within the Department of Surgical Biotechnology and wider within the Division, there are strong research streams in cell-biomaterial interactions for surgical reconstruction, organ regeneration, human tissue models, transplantation, and cancer treatment. One of our major current Departmental initiatives is the development of a new characterisation and imaging suite for biomaterials and cell-biomaterial interactions, which will be state of the art.
The postholder must possess a higher academic degree e.g. PhD, or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications and expertise in the subject matter of stem cell science and technology. Candidates must have a track record of high quality original research and extensive publications in high quality peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences, an active research profile at international level with a continuing track record of external research grant funding and excellent communication skills/verbal and written. Demonstrable academic activity in terms of research, in the field of stem cell science and technology (publications; research income; PhD supervision), knowledge and understanding of the principles of resource and budgetary management and awareness of Higher Education issues and the possible implications for the department are all essential.
In order for the appointment to be made at Professorial level, the following criteria are essential:
Acknowledged international leadership in the subject matter of stem cell science and technology, demonstrable academic activity in terms of translational research, in the field of stem cell science and technology (patents, links to industry, trials), demonstrable teaching and educational activities at undergraduate and postgraduate level and experience of collaborative working in a Biomedical Environment and the interface of university – NHS and/or university-industry.
