Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac)

Postdoctoral Scientist

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac), Australia

Melbourne, Australia

The Goel lab at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is seeking a highly motivated, hard-working and talented postdoctoral scientist who will make a major contribution to its research efforts. The Goel lab is focused on breast cancer research, and has specific interests in cell cycle biology (especially the CDK4/6 pathway), the breast cancer epigenome, and breast cancer immunology. We are positioned at the intersection of translational and fundamental research, using sophisticated laboratory models and techniques to find innovative answers to complex clinical questions.

We are seeking a scientist who has completed a PhD in a field related to cancer biology, cancer epigenetics, or cancer immunology. The successful candidate will have a strong passion for lab-based research and will have a desire to pursue a career in research in the long-term. They will also have exceptional communication skills, time management skills, and attention to detail. Technical precision whilst carrying out experiments is also critical.

Using their existing knowledge and skills, the candidate will lead a number of research projects in the Goel lab, with unrestricted access to the lab’s expertise, reagents, and mouse models as well as to the cutting-edge facilities of the Peter Mac and the broader Parkville precinct. In addition, the candidate must be able to work independently and will be involved in direct supervision of more junior members of the team (PhD students and research assistants).

The Goel lab has strong and unique connections with the breast oncology program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, USA), which opens up unique opportunities for collaborative projects that engage the two sites. Dr Goel also maintains a clinical practice and strong relationships with industry partners, allowing him to translate lab results swiftly into clinical trials. Examples of recent work conducted by Dr Goel that exemplify the efforts of the lab can be found in the publications: Goel et al 2017 Nature and Goel et al 2016 Cancer Cell.

This position is 12 Month Fixed Term Full-Time with the opportunity to extend. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants must also address all essential criteria as listed under experience / qualifications in the position description in a separate attachment.
