MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join the group of Dr Sjors Scheres to work on the structural characterisation of amyloid filaments involved in neurodegenerative disease. Specifically, to undertake research to investigate the relationship between the structure of filamentous tau and alpha-synuclein and their ability to spread through the brain. Structure determination will be done using our in-house, state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy facility. Purification of filaments from human brain tissue, in vitro reconstitution of filaments, and biochemical characterisation will be done in close collaboration with the group of Dr Michel Goedert at MRC-LMB.
You are highly motivated, have a PhD in a biological subject, and you have an affinity for biophysical methods and numerical data analysis. Experience in the biophysical/biochemical characterisation of amyloid filaments or experience in experimental cryo-electron microscopy are important advantages.
