About VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology
VIB is a life sciences research institute, based in Flanders, Belgium. We perform basic research with a strong focus on translating scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications. VIB is an independent research institute of the government, with 1470 scientists from more than 60 countries working at UGent, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Hasselt University.
The VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology (CMB) focuses on the development of new and innovative molecular tools and technologies to challenge human health problems. The Center translates its novel technologies and insights to widely applicable research tools, vaccines, diagnostics and biopharmaceuticals. Our research pushes the boundaries of protein-focused biomolecular and bioinformatics research and engineering technologies. CMB educates and trains the next generation of medical biotechnology researchers and informs the public on the impact of biotechnology on human health.
The Molecular Virology group of Xavier Saelens studies respiratory viruses including influenza and human respiratory syncytial virus, with a prime focus on the development of new vaccines and antibody-based antivirals against these pathogens. The lab is part of the VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology. The group has extensive experience in the discovery of single domain antibodies against these viruses and aims to expand its expertise in this field.
A postdoc position is vacant in the Saelens group to contribute to the discovery and characterization of a new repertoire of antibody-based antivirals against influenza. The team uses advanced screening and expression methods to identify such antibodies, which will be characterized in dept in state-of-the-art biochemical assays as well as in in vitro and in vivo influenza infection models.
You are a creative and cooperative person with a hands-on attitude. You have the ability to organize and prioritize workload. We are looking for an ambitious postdoc with a biochemical, biotechnological and/or virology background. The candidate should be proficient in molecular biology, recombinant protein production and purification and (influenza) virology. Being a team player and having effective communication and scientific writing skills are essential for a successful selection.
Financial support is available for 2 years, but the successful candidate is encouraged to obtain independent funding during this time.
Starting date: as soon as possible.
How to apply?
