Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the School of Medicine at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland and is available from 1st June 2020 to the contract end date 10th June 2021.
We are seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral position on “Energy storage cells and solid state batteries”. The project will involve the assembly and testing of energy storage cells based on different formulations of graphene materials. Our lab has materials preparation capabilities, including wet labs. We also have materials characterisation instruments such as SEM, XRD, XPS, potentiostats, and battery assembling tools. We are looking for highly self-motivated team players with experience in material development, battery assembly and testing. Experience with solid state batteries is a plus.
This project is based on a Commercialisation fund granted by Enterprise Ireland and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund). The project has a strong product development and commercial focus and there may be the possibility of future startup opportunities.
•Lead the development of prototypes including technical specification activities, and verification testing
•Proactively identify technical solutions and risks for project deliverables
•Work with external design firms in the transfer of knowledge required for development of a proof-of-concept, minimum viable product
•Monitor IP landscape and seek new patent opportunities.
•PhD in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or related field
•Strong background in material development
•Strong background in battery assembly and testing.
• Evidence of research activity (publications, conference presentations, awards) and future scholarly output (working papers, research proposals etc.)
•Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation) with an ability to enable effective knowledge and technology transfer.
•Fluency in English
•Ability to generate new ideas, unique concepts, models and solutions
- Experience with solid state batteries
Employment permit restrictions apply for this category of post
Salary: €37,874 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
Start date: 1/6/2020
