Your Role

The Postdoctoral project interfaces two rich fields of research: physics of active matter and biological transport, with an overarching goal to understand how topological defects could elicit transport phenomena in biological materials. The selected scientist will conduct her/his research in the Physics of Living Matter Group headed by Prof. Anupam Sengupta (DPHYMS), with exciting collaborative opportunities globally, and within Luxembourg. Beyond research, the candidate will enjoy ample training opportunities in transferable skills, support for career development, and opportunities to teach a highly diverse international student community of the University. During the research period, the postdoctoral scientist will carry out experiments and simulations, and extend the current theory of active matter physics. A specific focus will be put on the role of anisotropic visco-elasticity and emergent properties that arise due to the topological constraints.

Your Profile

We are seeking excellent and highly motivated candidates holding a PhD degree in a field related to the topic of the program (PhD or equivalent in Natural Sciences or Engineering Sciences). Experimental and theoretical background in soft and/or active matter physics and fluid mechanics is essential. Experience/knowledge of quantitative imaging, analysis and pattern recognition techniques will be given preference. Fluency in English is mandatory. Willingness to work in an inter-cultural and international environment, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, are desired.
