Postdoctoral researcher in metabolic modelling of gut-microbiome (m/f)
Area: Development of prediction model for glucose response based on gut-microbiome signature
The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) was created within the Health Technologies Initiative from the Government of Luxembourg as one of the research priorities of the University of Luxembourg. The LCSB is an Interdisciplinary Centre of the University, independent of the faculties and it combines experimental and computational approaches to analyze complex biological systems and disease processes from a systems biology perspective.
Societies are facing growing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) closely associated with lifestyle and in particular unhealthy diets. To improve the outcome of a dietary intervention, dietary assessment needs to be improved and use measurements of health-related markers that can provide insights into how our bodies digest food. In recent years, evidence has shown that the microbial communities living in the human gut (gut-microbiota) play a key role in digestion and its composition has been associated with dietary patterns and several diseases.
In particular, the composition of the gut-microbiome has been shown to influence post-prandial glucose response. The Nutriomix project proposes the development of a prediction tool for post-prandial glucose by analyzing the gut microbiota and metabolomics profile of individuals through the generation of personalized models of metabolism, using an approach known as Constraint-based modeling. Successful applicants will work closely with the startup team in this highly translational project by developing a product that can have a positive impact on societies around the globe.
The Postdoctoral fellow will work on an exciting project that aims at developing a computational tool that allows the processing metagenomic data, its processing, analysis, and result visualization in an interactive manner. The main objective of the applicant will be to develop the predictive model which will, in the future, be used as a basis for nutritional recommendations (and other possible outcomes).

- Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computation biology, computer science or related subject areas
- Strong programming and analytical skills
- Prior experience in metabolic modelling (COBRA) is strongly desired
- Strong programming skills in Python, R or MATLAB
- Experience in the use of cloud-based or HPC platforms will be an advantage
- Excellent working knowledge in English
