The offered position is in the context of a recently started inter-disciplinary project on structural MRI in neurology and cardiology. Funding is currently available until 10/2022.
The successful applicant will work on the setup and implementation of data processing strategies of structural MRI in patients with epilepsy and healthy controls. This involves automated post-processing and classification of brain MRI using machine learning approaches including novel concepts of k-space machine learning. The aim of this project is to provide tools for large scale image processing to improve our understanding of neurological as well as cardiac function and dysfunction.
Applicants need a higher-level university degree (PhD or equivalent) in physics, mathematics, biology, biomedical engineering, medicine or other related disciplines. Programming skills (Matlab, Python) are essential as is previous knowledge of common imaging toolboxes (e.g. SPM, FSL, Freesurfer, AFNI). Machine learning skills and/or previous experiences with imaging databases (e.g. XNAT) are beneficial. Previous publications on relevant topics are expected for a successful application. Previous experience with epilepsy are beneficial but not mandatory. The applicant has to be fluent in English, both written and oral. German language skills are advantageous, but not a prerequisite.
The focus of our group is the utilization of imaging and post-processing methods to better understand the neurobiology of focal and generalized epilepsies allow individualized diagnostics and translate methodological advances into clinical applications.
The salary is according to German federal scale (TV-L, E13 100 %). The initial contract is for one year. After successful interim evaluation, a prolongation for the full project time is available (currently 10/2022). The university is especially encouraging the application of women.
