Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Phase Separation and Nuclear Condensates in Gene Control, at UT Southwestern Medical Center
A postdoctoral training position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Benjamin Sabari, in the Cecil H. and Ida Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center to study the formation and function of phase-separated nuclear condensates in gene control and genome organization in healthy and diseased cell states. Nuclear condensates are dynamic local concentrations of macromolecules often found associated with specific genomic loci. The behavior of the concentrated macromolecules suggests that they may form through phase separation driven by multivalent interactions among protein, RNA, and DNA. Our laboratory has several exciting projects related to investigating (1) the role of protein disorder in establishing condensates necessary for cellular differentiation, (2) how nuclear condensates spatiotemporally coordinate genome architecture and transcription in response to distinct signals, and 3) the role of DNA sequence and chromatin state in establishing condensates.
Postdoctoral scholars will have many opportunities to learn and build upon the latest methods in chromatin, epigenetic, transcription, and condensate research, in addition to working in an exciting, fast-evolving area of biomedical science. We use various approaches, including CRISPR-engineered cell models, live-cell fluorescence microscopy, proteomics, molecular biology, nucleic acid and protein biochemistry, genomics with next-generation sequencing, and mammalian cell-based studies.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree. Experience in biochemistry, cell biology, biophysics, genomics, and/or structural biology leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals is recommended.
Information on our postdoctoral training program and benefits can be found in our Postdoc Handbook or at http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/postdocs.
