Lund University invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Experimental Cardiovascular Research, at the Department of Clinical Sciences Malmö. The position is placed at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Malmö, within the research group Cardiovascular Research – immunity and atherosclerosis.
The highly translational research ongoing at the Cardiovascular Research Unit is focused on investigating immunological processes involved in cardiovascular disease. By using animal models and large human material repositories, we aim to develop novel therapeutic targets for translation into clinical practice. Particular attention is awarded to mechanisms of atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, heart failure and stroke.
The position relates to a project that investigates mechanisms of inflammation, fibrosis and remodelling in a mouse model of myocardial infarction and heart failure. The model will be used to further investigate a promising immunomodulatory treatment for improvement of post-ischemic myocardial function, which has been developed in our group. Both in-vivo and in-vitro experiments will be performed to define the underlying mechanisms and to further improve the treatment towards a possible therapy for myocardial infarction patients. The project offers a great opportunity to be involved in a fast-advancing field with high potential for future clinical applicability.
The successful applicant will work in direct collaboration with the principal investigator leading the project, and with other members of the group. He/she is expected to independently design and perform experiments, supervise junior members of the team, run statistical analyses, interpret the data and present the results through publications and at international meetings. The project also offers the opportunity to travel for short periods of time to our collaborators in Europe and USA.
The candidate should have a PhD degree obtained no earlier than 3 years before the application deadline (this period can be extended in case of sabbatical periods, such as parenting leave). Good knowledge of mouse work and immunology, including flow cytometry analyses, and good English language skills (speaking and writing) are required. Other desirable techniques include microsurgery, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, ELISA, RT-PCR, protein analysis, single cell analysis, in-vitro techniques. Previous experience with mouse models of myocardial infarction and cardiovascular disease, as well as statistical software (such as SPSS) are considered to be a merit.
