Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Ultrasound-mediated Phase Transition Contrast Agents for Imaging and Therapy

A highly motivated candidate with strong experimental experience in the areas of biomedical ultrasound, biophysics, or biomedical engineering is sought for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics at the Heart and Vascular Institute, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Xucai Chen. A major project focus involves the application of ultrasound and phase transition ultrasound contrast agents for imaging and therapy in cardiovascular disease. There will be an opportunity to investigate phase transition dynamics and various mechanisms of ultrasound mediated therapy, including effects of ultrasound on endothelial permeability in various tissue beds. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively with the members of the Center, including faculty of different backgrounds, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and technicians.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in biomedical ultrasound, biophysics, or biomedical engineering, or have equivalent experience in related fields. Applicants must have significant background and experience with biomedical ultrasound instrumentation and experimentation. Experience in ultrasound contrast agents or microscopy, although not mandatory, would be an advantage. Candidates must also demonstrate scientific communication skills and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics is engaged in both basic and translational investigations involving ultrasound contrast agents for imaging and therapy with a broad range of biomedical applications. In particular, the Center emphasizes development of multidisciplinary and novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases using principles of ultrasound and acoustically active agents as molecular probes and/or therapeutic delivery agents. The Center houses one of the most advanced ultra-high speed camera systems dedicated for the study of microbubble dynamics and mechanisms of ultrasound and microbubble mediated therapy.
