University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The Department of Bioengineering and Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology seek applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team in the lab of Prof. Andrew Smith that develops and applies nanoparticle imaging agents (quantum dots) for single molecule imaging and quantitative molecular analysis The successful applicant will use imaging to study the process of gene delivery in living cells and tissues in order to dramatically improve transformation efficiencies of recalcitrant crops including cowpea and cassava. The research project is a part of multi-institutional effort to address the global food challenge via the Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency (RIPE) program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR), and Department for International Development (DFID).

We are interested in self-motivated candidates with a Ph.D. who are enthusiastic and passionate about tackling biological problems, with demonstrated publication and closely related research experience in quantitative image analysis, advanced optical microscopy techniques, and single molecule imaging.
