About the Role

A position is available for a postdoctoral research assistant to join the laboratory of Silvia Marino at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, to study glioblastoma, a currently untreatable malignant tumour of the brain. The successful applicant will lead a multi-organisation collaborative project focused on leveraging exciting newly developed experimental tools, including patient-derived tumour stem cells and matched iPSC-derived neural stem cells, as well as comparative epigenomic datasets derived thereof to understand the contribution of the local microenvironment to tumour development and resistance to therapy (Merve et al. Acta Neuropathol Commun 2019, Dumas et al. EMBO J 2020, Vinel et al Nature Communications 2021). This is a Cancer Research UK funded post based in a laboratory which is part of the Cancer Research UK City of London major centre, a partnership between the Francis Crick Institute, University College London, Kings College London and Queen Mary Medical School.

About You

We seek an ambitious and self-motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics or computational biology. A track record of effective communication, teamwork and successful project management, including publication of scientific results is essential.

About the Institute

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a full time, fixed term appointment for 3 years, with an expected start date of earliest July 2022. The starting salary will be Grade 4-5, in the range of £33,824 – £43,069 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
