MicroRNAs in Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)
Dr. David Cohen’s laboratory at WCM-NY in collaboration with Dr. Hani Najafi-Shouhstari invites applications for one postdoctoral position to study the role and regulation of metabolic small non-coding RNAs (MicroRNAs) and related pathway protein targets in the development and progression of non-alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD). The goal is to translate basic biology into novel approaches to prevention and treatment of NASH, an increasingly prevalent liver disease condition for which no diagnostics or therapies are available. Ongoing research in the laboratory focuses on identifying microRNA-dependent cellular mechanisms that contribute to hepatic steatosis through multi-omics based systems biology approaches following clinical and in vivo mouse model studies (Science 2010, 18; 328 & Nat Med 2015;21:1290-7).
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or M.D., awarded within the last three years, and should have a high level of motivation and enthusiasm, the ability to work independently, and a strong background in molecular and cellular metabolism. Experience, including handling, in animal models with genetic or environmental induction of NAFDL/NASH would also be helpful. Excellent organizational skills and fluent English are required.
