Postdoctoral Position in Neuroscience Of Stress-Related Mental Disorders

The Daskalakis’ Neurogenomics and Translational Bioinformatics Laboratory (https://bit.ly/2Wcd3jw), directed by Dr. Nikolaos P. Daskalakis at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School, is seeking an ambitious, creative, and motivated postdoctoral fellow with expertise in neuroscience to lead translational research on the mechanisms underlying PTSD and other stress-related mental disorders. The lab employs functional genomics to dissect genes, pathways and regulatory networks underlying the genetics of stress-related mental disorders. The fellow will take advantage large sets of findings and engage in translational research using cell engineering and animal transgenesis to validate causal genes.


The fellow will be mentored by Drs. Nikolaos Daskalakis, MD PhD, and have access to the McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Broad Institute academic environments, resources and affiliates. The successful candidate will be proposed for academic appointment as a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. The post-doc will work in the Daskalakis’ Lab, in close collaboration the Neurobiology of Fear Lab directed by Dr. Kerry Ressler. Together, the two labs provide a highly collaborative and dynamic research setting including, scientist and trainees with diverse expertise such as molecular and cell biology, computational biology, neuroscience, psychiatry, statistical genetics and systems biology.


Qualifications:

·        PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience and molecular/cellular biology (within 2 years of graduation)

·        Strong experience using cell and/or rodent models

·        Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals

·        Excellent communication skills

·        Ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team;

·        Experience/knowledge of statistical and bioinformatic software

·        Experience with primary brain cell culture or induced pluripotent stem cells

·        Experience with brain stereotactic surgery in rodents

·        Good understanding of genetics

·        Familiarity with programming
