A postdoctoral position for studying Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathways and developing small molecule TLR inhibitors is available immediately in the Hans Haecker Lab in the Division of Microbiology & Immunology, University of Utah Department of Pathology.
In previous work we developed an innovative drug screening platform to identify small molecules with TLR-inhibitory activity using high throughput screening (HTS) (Science Signaling 2018,https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30108181; ChemMedChem 2018, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30117269).
We are currently extending this HTS approach to identify and characterize novel TLR-inhibitory compounds. The focus of this preclinical drug development project is to characterize hits with respect to mechanism of action, structure activity relationship and in vitro/ in vivo activity. The goal is to identify novel TLR small molecule inhibitors as probes to explore TLR signal transduction and as possible starting point for future anti-inflammatory drug development.
Applicants should hold a PhD and/or MD degree in Biochemistry, Biology or Immunology. The ideal candidate should have expertise in cellular and molecular biology, signal transduction and, preferably, protein biochemistry.
The project provides an ideal opportunity for fellows who are interested in (i) innate immunity and inflammation, (ii) signal transduction and (iii) drug development.
