A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Anna Demetriades, MD, PhD, at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. The laboratory focuses on developing new treatments for glaucoma using a gene therapy approach. We use adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors that have been modified to target specific cell types within the retina. By administering AAV vectors carrying neurotrophic factors, we are able to create cell-specific neurotrophic biofactories within the retina. We have demonstrated neuroprotection with our vectors in both acute and chronic murine models of glaucoma.
The research will focus on identifying specific genes that regulate retinal ganglion cell survival in the presence and absence of retinal cell-specific delivery of neurotrophic factors in established murine glaucoma models. The aim is to identify new therapeutic gene targets that will enable optimization of vector design for subsequent therapies.
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow with a strong record in molecular biology. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in molecular biology. The ideal candidate should have extensive laboratory experience in molecular techniques, including cell isolation, and molecular profiling. Prior experience with the next-generation sequencing is highly desirable. In addition, work experience with animal models, and in vivo experimentation is preferable. Competitive applicants will have experience writing manuscripts and effective communication skills.
