Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.
The Department of Environmental Toxicology (Utox) invites applications for a
Postdoctoral position in Cell Biology and Bioanalytics
in order to investigate the interaction of tire wear particles and/or their associated chemicals with gill and intestinal cells of fish, using well-established fish cell lines as experimental models. Determination of cell-internal concentrations and transfer across epithelial cell layers are challenges to be tackled in order to inform about the potential of particles to enter fish. Understanding of how cells respond to particle exposure will be gained by means of cellular and molecular assays.
This project is part of an interdisciplinary effort, which aims at an integrated assessment of the bioavailability, bioaccumulation and toxicity of tire wear particles to fish and oligochaetes. The project comprises a close collaboration between Eawag, EPFL and the Applied Centre for Ecotoxicology at Eawag/EPFL. The place of work for this position is at Eawag in Dübendorf.
We are looking for candidates with a PhD degree in a relevant field and an appropriate track record. You are interested in multidisciplinary research that bridges fundamental and applied aspects and you are knowledgeable in vertebrate cell biology and/or bioanalytics. Prior experience in particlerelated research would be an asset. We offer a very dynamic and collaborative research environment, which also profits from state-of-the-art infrastructure and support. The period of employment for this project is 24 months.
Eawag offers a unique research and working environmentand is committed to promoting equal opportunities for women and men and to support the compatibility of family and work. Applications from women are especially welcome. For more information about Eawag and our work conditions please consult www.eawag.ch and www.eawag.ch/en/aboutus/working/employment.
Applications must be submitted by 22 January 2020 and should include a letter of motivation explaining why you think you can contribute to this research, a CV and list of publications, and the names and contact information for three references.
