The Laboratory of Pathology in the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD, has a mission to achieve the highest level of quality in clinical diagnostics, cancer research and education. In addition to fulfilling the anatomic pathology services within and beyond the NIH, the Lab of Pathology continues to incorporate innovative tools for diagnosis and research, and expands its scope of expertise as a globally recognized center of excellence.
The Genomic Pathology Section in the Lab of Pathology, led by Dr. Kenneth Aldape, focuses on cancer genomics and epigenomics research, and tries to integrate multi-omics single-cell technologies into human cancer specimens (https://ccr.cancer.gov/Laboratory-of-Pathology/kenneth-aldape). We focus on primary human brain gliomas, but are also interested in a variety of cancer types (for publications, please see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=aldape+k). Our goal is to broaden as well as to deepen our understanding of cancer signatures using a variety of high-throughput single-cell genomic and epigenomic analysis methods. A substantial advantage available for our research is immediate access to human tumor samples in our pathology archives and real-time clinical work, including fresh human brain tumor specimens from the operating theater.
There is a position available in the Genomic Pathology Lab for a post-doctoral fellow. Possible projects include, but are not limited to, single-cell profiling of human cancer specimens, including scRNA-seq, sc-Methyl-seq, scATAC-seq, and scChIP-seq.
Candidates should have a PhD and/or MD degree in molecular biology, cancer biology or a related field, received within recent three years or scheduled to receive very soon. Successful candidates should have deep understanding and experience in various genomic and epigenomic technologies, such as whole-genome sequencing, ChIP-seq and single-cell sequencing. A new postdoc is expected to be highly motivated and productive pursuing his/her research projects, work independently as well as collaboratively with other lab members, and share the lab’s interest and vision for the future of cancer classification and diagnostics. Proficient communication in both spoken and written English is strictly required, and informatic analysis skills of huge datasets will be a plus.
