Project Description: Recent studies in human neuronal cells and our research in microglia demonstrated different tropism of historical and contemporary EV-D68 strains. The goal of the project is to understand EV-D68 genomic determinants of this distinct tropism. The candidate will use reverse genetics systems and wild-type contemporary and historical strains to generate EV-D68 chimeras. Viral replication and infectivity will be assessed in neuronal cells, neuronal progenitor cells, and microglia. Pathogenesis in mice will be also addressed.

Financial Support: The project is fully funded for two years.
