One postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Hongying Shen, assistant professor at Systems Biology Institute at Yale West Campus and Cellular & Molecular Physiology at Yale School of Medicine (https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/hongying_shen/). The Shen lab uses multidisciplinary approaches ranging from biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and metabolomics to study cellular metabolism underlying human health and diseases.
The candidates must have (or expect to have) a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biology-related discipline. We are seeking candidates with expertise in mammalian cell biology, CRISPR genetic manipulation and biochemistry with interest in metabolism, especially mitochondrial metabolism. The candidate is expected to conduct an independent research project, and collaborate with scientists within and outside of our group. The successful candidates are also expected to participate lab meetings and joint group meetings by presenting and offering feed backs. The successful candidate will also have the opportunities to get exposure to high-resolution, mass spectrometry-based untargeted and targeted metabolomics experiments.
Dr. Shen did her Ph.D. work with Dr. Pietro De Camilli (Yale), where she studied membrane curvature formation and lipid metabolism during endocytic trafficking. She then completed her postdoctoral training with Dr. Vamsi Mootha (MGH and Harvard) to develop integrated metabolomics and CRISPR screen approaches to study orphan human metabolic enzymes and transporters of unknown functions. She is a recipient of NIH pathway to independence award (K99/R00). In 2020, Dr. Shen joined the Cellular & Molecular Physiology Department and the Systems Biology Institute at Yale as an assistant professor.
