Postdoctoral Fellow in Vascular Biology
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. M. Dennis Leo to study physiological functions and pathological alterations in arterial smooth muscle and endothelial cells. Molecular biology and biochemistry experience are required. Cardiovascular physiology and/or electrophysiology experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Projects include studying signaling mechanisms, trafficking and regulation of blood pressure by ion channels and insulin receptor signaling pathways. Techniques used include RT-PCR, Western blotting, biotinylation, immunofluorescence, FRET, calcium imaging, pressurized artery myography and blood pressure telemetry. The lab uses a combination of cell culture, inducible rodent disease models and conditional knockout mouse models.
Since this position involves significant collaboration with other PI’s in the College of Medicine and the College of Pharmacy at UTHSC, prospective applicants should have excellent communication and teamwork skills and be willing to learn new techniques.
Dr. Leo’s lab is in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Campus in Memphis, Tennessee within a vibrant academic biomedical community that includes Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the University of Memphis. Excellent facilities and career development opportunities exist for post-doctoral fellows in the Department and across campus.
Ph.D. in physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or a related biomedical field and a strong publication record.
