Dr. Liza Makowski, Department Medicine-Hematology, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, is looking for an exceptional postdoctoral fellow to conduct studies on anti-tumor immunity as the role of the microbiome in breast cancer tumor microenvironment for a multi PI (MPI)-funded position in conjunction with Dr. Joe Pierre (UTHSC Dept. of Pediatrics and Microbiology, Immunology and Biochemisty. We use pre-clinical models of breast cancer combined with translational approaches. Expertise in microbiome and gnotobiotics, anti-tumor immunity, tumor microenvironment, and immunotherapy is essential. Bioinformatics expertise is a plus. This fellow must think independently to design and plan experiments, problem solve, and be an expert or gain expertise in typical biostatistics languages (like R) and interfaces such as Caylpso. Knowledge of metabolism is a plus. Exceptional oral and written skills are required. This fellow is expected apply for grants (K, K99, F32, AACR, other postdoctoral grants) with the mentoring support of Dr. Makowski. Fellows will complete first and co-author manuscripts and present findings at local and national meetings. We are looking for an accomplished, organized, efficient, trustworthy, and dynamic personality to work with the Makowski lab in the UTHSC Center for Cancer Research.


M.D. and/or Ph.D. must have been completed later than 2017. Doctoral degree in immunology, cancer biology, or similar with >5 years of experience demonstrated by lead publications is required. Evidence of publications in top scientific journals and presentations at national conferences are required.
