Postdoctoral Fellow- Neurosurgery- Krencik

Houston Methodist Research Institute

Houston, TX, United States

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Krencik, in the Department of Neurosurgery and Center for Neuroregeneration, within The Houston Methodist Research Institute.

https://krencik.iamlabs.org/

We are dedicated to translate innovative neuroscience research discoveries into clinical therapies for restoration of the nervous system after injury and disease conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease. Our state-of-the-art research facilities, core resources and academic program are designed to accelerate research progress in comparison to the classical academic setting.

The Krencik Lab is specifically focused on understanding the functional relationship between human neurons and astrocytes. We employ novel three-dimensional human pluripotent stem cell derived cultures (organoids and spheroids), optogenetics, chemogenetics, multielectrode array electrophysiology, modern microscopy such as light sheet, cellular engraftments and molecular approaches to answer vital questions in neuroregeneration.

The postdoctoral candidate will have the unique opportunity to work closely with neurosurgeons (e.g., attend grand rounds and conduct collaborative projects) and other research groups throughout the Texas Medical Center; the largest medical center in the world. In addition to conducting research, the applicant is expected to apply for fellowships, present at scientific meetings, publish manuscripts and mentor junior lab members in preparation for a future career as an independent scientist. The applicant must be innovative and eager to disrupt the current state of stem cell biotechnology.
