Postdoctoral Fellow: Neuroplasticity and Repair Laboratory
A postdoctoral research position is available at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurosurgery in the laboratory of Daniel C. Lu, MD, PhD.
Dr. Lu’s Neuroplasticity and Repair Laboratory studies neural circuits within the spinal cord. Strategies that achieve plasticity after spinal cord injury by reactivating the interneuronal circuitry through electrical stimulation and pharmacological agonist therapy are subjects of our research. These interventions can recover previously limited function, including reaching and grasping, locomotion, and autonomic functions such as bladder expression and respiration. We are conducting studies in animals that decipher the cellular components and mechanistic basis of recovery after neuromodulation. We validate these findings in humans through clinical trials.
We seek experienced scientists to advance our research. Applicants must have experience with the use of chemo‐ or optogenetic, immunohistochemical, or electrophysiological techniques or a combination thereof.
Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the following areas: neurophysiology, molecular biology, mouse and rat surgery, functional kinematic testing, and data analysis. Expertise in electrophysiology of cultured central nervous system tissue is sought but not mandatory.
Applicants must have a PhD or MD or both. We are seeking an independent, motivated researcher with excellent organization and communication skills.
