Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunotherapy

Biomedical Engineering, Georgia Tech and Emory School of Medicine

Atlanta, GA, United States

The Dreaden Laboratory at seeks a postdoctoral fellow with a background in basic immune biology who seeks to further strengthen or broaden their skills in bioengineering. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of basic scientists, engineers, and clinical collaborators who seek to develop non-natural approaches to immunotherapy for cancer and other immune-driven diseases. Based on background, skills, and interests, the fellow would have the opportunity to work on the development of therapeutic strategies that include novel T cell-targeting therapies, light-activated proteins, and high-throughput protein assembly and screening techniques. Significant, hands-on research experience in ONE of the following areas is required:

- multicolor flow cytometry of immune cells

- cardiovascular, transplant, or blood disorder immunology

- drug therapy in mouse models of cancer

- fusion protein engineering

The research laboratory is housed within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory, ranked #1 and #3 in the USA among undergraduate and graduate BME programs, respectively. In addition, the PI holds faculty appointments in the Department of Pediatrics as well as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and is located on the Emory School of Medicine Campus in Atlanta, GA. Trainees have further access to resources within the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, the Winship Cancer Institute, and the Pediatric Research Alliance, and the Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience at which the PI is also a faculty member.

Candidates from non-engineering backgrounds are also especially encouraged to apply (e.g. immunology, biology, biochem, molec biol). Applicants with Summer/Fall 2019 start dates will be given priority; however, candidates will be considered immediately and on a rolling basis through Jan 2020. Multiple hires may be considered. Please submit a cv and a brief cover letter, including contact information for 3-5 references, to dreadenlab@gmail.com. Name the file as last_first_postdoc_year.pdf.

Experience in the following may be beneficial, depending on the proposed project, but is not required: multiplexed immunoassays, transgenic cell line development, bioinformatics/statistics, methods of chemical/bio-conjugation, immunohistochemical staining, vaccine development, intravital imaging, polymer drug conjugation, microfluidic models, western blot/ELISA, confocal fluorescence microscopy, click chemistry, high-content imaging, bead-based cell isolation, cell imaging in 3D matrices, cell chemotaxis assays, recombinant protein analysis/purification.

Requirements: Doctoral degree (PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent) in a related field with less than two years of prior postdoctoral experience. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated with strong oral and written fluency in English. Please see other job requirements in the description above.
