The Vascular Epigenetics group at the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (HI-MAG) is now recruiting a
Postdoctoral Fellow in crosstalk between Epigenetics, Metabolism and Vascular Biology in Leipzig (f/m/d)
The Vascular Epigenetics group, headed by Dr. Bilal Sheikh, elucidates the molecular mechanisms that underpin the complex interplay between metabolic, lifestyle and epigenetic factors. The group focuses on these themes in the context of vascular function and vascular disease. In close partnership with the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig and the University Hospital Leipzig, we aim to translate our discoveries into effective therapies against vascular dysfunction in a variety of pathologies.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on one or more exciting projects that span the fields of epigenetics, metabolism and vascular biology. The projects will involve dissecting molecular mechanisms and phenotypic changes in animal models using state-of-the-art techniques such as single cell technologies (10x genomics), next-generation sequencing, chromatin analyses and mass spectrometry based metabolomics. In addition, human clinical samples will be available for translational research.
The ideal applicant should be highly motivated, have good communication skills and be able to independently drive research projects. A background in mammalian cell culture techniques and animal models is required. Experience with Crispr/Cas9 technology, flow cytometry, bioinformatic analyses (in R) and single-cell technologies would be beneficial. The candidate should have completed (or shortly will complete) a highly successful PhD with at least one first author paper in a reputable international journal.

Remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective wage agreement for public-sector employees at federal level (TV EntgO Bund). The activity involves special knowledge and experience specific to own scientific skills.
The position is available from 01.02.2020 and is initially offered for two years with a possible extension.
