A position is available to work at the interface of basic tumor biology, virology, and translational therapeutics for head and neck cancer. The postdoctoral researcher will join our growing multidisciplinary team of basic and clinical scientists focused on this disease. A suitable candidate must demonstrate the communication and team skills needed to excel in this environment, as well as strong commitment to career advancement toward scientific independence. The position will be supported by NIH funding and industry-sponsored agreements in the Division of Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Our research program aims to develop novel approaches to target the tumor cell fractions within individual cancers that are innately resistant to current therapies. Studies will emphasize molecular and functional definition of the epigenetically distinct cell states within a heterogeneous tumor that contribute to treatment failure. Work will rely upon advanced in vitro cancer models, patient-derived xenografts, and human tumor specimens. Studies will emphasize models for human papilloma virus (HPV)-related head and neck cancers and other tumor subtypes. Significant prior experience in epigenetics, cancer biology, bioinformatics, stem cell biology, tumor virology, and/or biochemistry is desirable. Visa sponsorship might be considered for a foreign PhD scientist with exceptional training and abilities that include well-developed English writing skills.
